# Masterbuilt Classic vs Char

The clearest difference is rating: Masterbuilt Classic at 2.0 against Char's 1.0. Masterbuilt Classic also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (218 vs 1). Char's advantage is review sentiment (50% vs 16%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Masterbuilt Classic holds the better App Store score, 2.0 against 1.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Masterbuilt Classic has 218 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 16% of Masterbuilt Classic's written reviews are positive against 50% of Char's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Masterbuilt Classic ships an update monthly, Char every 5 months. The most recent releases landed on August 25, 2026 and July 18, 2026 respectively.
