# Tex vs Text App

The clearest difference is rating: Text App at 4.6 against Tex's 3.6. Text App also leads on ratings volume (3.5K vs 5). Tex's advantage is review sentiment (67% vs 30%) and in-app purchases (none vs 7). On price, update cadence, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Text App sells 7 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month. Tex asks for nothing beyond the download.

Text App holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Text App has 3.5K ratings behind it against 5, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Tex's written reviews are positive against 30% of Text App's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 16, 2026 and October 18, 2026 respectively.
