# Southern Writers vs Dvn8

The clearest difference is rating: Dvn8 at 4.9 against Southern Writers's 3.0. Dvn8 also leads on monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and update cadence (every 3 weeks vs every 11 months). Southern Writers's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Southern Writers sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per year and Dvn8 sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Dvn8 holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 3.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Dvn8 has 69 ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 100% of Southern Writers's written reviews are positive against 98% of Dvn8's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Southern Writers ships an update every 11 months, Dvn8 every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
