# Tawk.to vs Gist Live Chat

The clearest difference is rating: Gist Live Chat at 4.2 against Tawk.to's 3.7. Gist Live Chat also leads on iOS requirement (12.4 vs 16.0). Tawk.to's advantage is update cadence (fortnightly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (211 vs 16). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Gist Live Chat holds the better App Store score, 4.2 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tawk.to has 211 ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 59% of Tawk.to's written reviews are positive against 50% of Gist Live Chat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Tawk.to ships an update fortnightly, Gist Live Chat every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 2, 2026 and September 10, 2026 respectively.
