# Brilliant vs Mathmax

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Mathmax at none against Brilliant's 19. Mathmax also leads on ads (none vs shown) and rating (5.0 vs 4.7). Brilliant's advantage is ratings volume (33K vs 2) and chart position (#71 vs unranked). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Brilliant sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $19.99 per month. Mathmax asks for nothing beyond the download.

Mathmax holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Brilliant has 33K ratings behind it against 2, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 79% of Brilliant's written reviews are positive against 82% of Mathmax's.

Brilliant ships an update weekly, Mathmax every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 1, 2026 and September 29, 2026 respectively.
