# FluentU vs SpeakFlash

The clearest difference is review sentiment: SpeakFlash at 100% against FluentU's 56%. SpeakFlash also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.3) and monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription). FluentU's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and ratings volume (2.8K vs 3). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FluentU sells 12 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and SpeakFlash sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

SpeakFlash holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: FluentU has 2.8K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 56% of FluentU's written reviews are positive against 100% of SpeakFlash's.

FluentU ships an update fortnightly, SpeakFlash every 3 days. The most recent releases landed on October 15, 2026 and October 3, 2026 respectively.
