# Spellix vs Word Tangle

The clearest difference is ads: Spellix at none against Word Tangle's shown. Spellix also leads on review sentiment (84% vs 74%) and iOS requirement (10.0 vs 13.0). Word Tangle's advantage is update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 3 months) and rating (4.8 vs 4.5). On price, in-app purchases, monetization model and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Spellix sells 6 one-off in-app purchases and Word Tangle sells 12 one-off in-app purchases. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Word Tangle holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Word Tangle has 3.1K ratings behind it against 95, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 84% of Spellix's written reviews are positive against 74% of Word Tangle's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Spellix ships an update every 3 months, Word Tangle every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 22, 2026 and October 26, 2026 respectively.
