# Shearing vs Identify Plants

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Identify Plants at 100% against Shearing's 67%. Identify Plants also leads on ratings volume (9 vs 1). Shearing's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.6) and iOS requirement (15.6 vs 17.0). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Shearing sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $12.99 per month and Identify Plants sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Shearing holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Identify Plants has 9 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Shearing's written reviews are positive against 100% of Identify Plants's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Shearing ships an update monthly, Identify Plants every 3 weeks. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
