# Web Browser SMS vs Fext

The clearest difference is rating: Fext at 4.0 against Web Browser SMS's 3.3. Fext also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 5 days vs every 3 weeks). Web Browser SMS's advantage is monetization model (free with in-app purchases vs subscription) and review sentiment (50% vs 24%). On price, in-app purchases, device support and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Web Browser SMS sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per 2 months and Fext sells 16 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Fext holds the better App Store score, 4.0 against 3.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Fext has 551 ratings behind it against 13, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 50% of Web Browser SMS's written reviews are positive against 24% of Fext's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Web Browser SMS ships an update every 3 weeks, Fext every 5 days. The most recent releases landed on October 6, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
