# Learn German vs Wlingua

The clearest difference is ads: Wlingua at none against Learn German's shown. Wlingua also leads on rating (4.9 vs 4.7). Learn German's advantage is ratings volume (825 vs 95) and iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.1). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Learn German sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and Wlingua sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Wlingua holds the better App Store score, 4.9 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Learn German has 825 ratings behind it against 95, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 93% of Learn German's written reviews are positive against 87% of Wlingua's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Learn German ships an update every 9 days, Wlingua weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 17, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
