# Learn German vs DER

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Learn German at 835 against DER's 1. Learn German also leads on iOS requirement (11.0 vs 15.1). DER's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.7) and monetization model (ad-supported vs free with in-app purchases). On price, review sentiment, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Learn German sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $7.99 per month and DER sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $9.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

DER holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Learn German has 835 ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 93% of Learn German's written reviews are positive against 100% of DER's.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 26, 2026 and September 24, 2026 respectively.
