# Notoriety vs Plain Note

The clearest difference is rating: Plain Note at 4.6 against Notoriety's 3.6. Plain Note also leads on update cadence (every 9 days vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (1.1K vs 8). Notoriety's advantage is review sentiment (80% vs 62%) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 26.0). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Notoriety sells 5 one-off in-app purchases and Plain Note sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $2.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Plain Note holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 3.6. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Plain Note has 1.1K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 80% of Notoriety's written reviews are positive against 62% of Plain Note's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Notoriety ships an update every 6 months, Plain Note every 9 days. The most recent releases landed on October 24, 2026 and October 23, 2026 respectively.
