Verdict
The clearest difference is review sentiment: File Explorer at 65% against MyFiles's 0%. File Explorer also leads on ratings volume (79 vs 15) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 18.0). MyFiles's advantage is rating (4.5 vs 3.9) and ads (none vs shown). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.
Scored on Price · Rating · Positive reviews · Number of ratings · Update frequency · Ads · In-app purchases · Monetization · Best chart rank · Devices · Requires iOS
Both are free to download. File Explorer sells 2 one-off in-app purchases and MyFiles sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $1.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.
MyFiles holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: File Explorer has 79 ratings behind it against 15, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 65% of File Explorer's written reviews are positive against 0% of MyFiles's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.
File Explorer ships an update every 3 months, MyFiles every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 4, 2026 respectively.
