# Live Caption vs Caption Expert

The clearest difference is rating: Caption Expert at 4.6 against Live Caption's 2.5. Caption Expert also leads on ratings volume (2.4K vs 39) and review sentiment (36% vs 28%). Live Caption's advantage is monetization model (freemium vs subscription) and device support (3 vs 1). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Live Caption sells 1 in-app purchase, starting at $2.99 per month and Caption Expert sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Caption Expert holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 2.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Caption Expert has 2.4K ratings behind it against 39, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 28% of Live Caption's written reviews are positive against 36% of Caption Expert's.

Live Caption ships an update every 4 weeks, Caption Expert fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on September 19, 2026 and September 22, 2026 respectively.
