# VPN by Private Internet Access vs MiChat

The clearest difference is rating: VPN by Private Internet Access at 4.7 against MiChat's 3.8. VPN by Private Internet Access also leads on update cadence (every 10 days vs every 4 months) and ratings volume (150K vs 8). MiChat's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 10) and review sentiment (100% vs 88%). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. VPN by Private Internet Access sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per month. MiChat asks for nothing beyond the download.

VPN by Private Internet Access holds the better App Store score, 4.7 against 3.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: VPN by Private Internet Access has 150K ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 88% of VPN by Private Internet Access's written reviews are positive against 100% of MiChat's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

VPN by Private Internet Access ships an update every 10 days, MiChat every 4 months. The most recent releases landed on November 8, 2026 and November 3, 2026 respectively.
