# Tandem vs English Conversation Practice

Tandem and English Conversation Practice both sit at 4.6 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of English Conversation Practice's written reviews are positive against 47% of Tandem's. English Conversation Practice also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 16.0). Tandem's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 6 months) and ratings volume (39K vs 27). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Tandem sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $14.99 per month and English Conversation Practice sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.6 for Tandem against 4.7 for English Conversation Practice. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Tandem has 39K ratings behind it against 27, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 47% of Tandem's written reviews are positive against 100% of English Conversation Practice's.

Tandem ships an update weekly, English Conversation Practice every 6 months. Both last shipped on November 7, 2026.
