# FlyVPN vs MATE VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: MATE VPN at free with in-app purchases against FlyVPN's subscription. MATE VPN also leads on update cadence (every 2 weeks vs every 6 weeks) and review sentiment (78% vs 62%). FlyVPN's advantage is ads (none vs shown). On price, rating, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. FlyVPN sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $11.99 per month and MATE VPN sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.5 for FlyVPN against 4.4 for MATE VPN. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: MATE VPN has 8.7K ratings behind it against 1.4K, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 62% of FlyVPN's written reviews are positive against 78% of MATE VPN's.

FlyVPN ships an update every 6 weeks, MATE VPN every 2 weeks. The most recent releases landed on November 1, 2026 and November 8, 2026 respectively.
