# Onion Browser vs TOR Browser Private + VPN

The clearest difference is monetization model: Onion Browser at free with in-app purchases against TOR Browser Private + VPN's subscription. Onion Browser also leads on review sentiment (49% vs 32%) and ratings volume (13K vs 2.3K). On price, rating, update cadence and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Onion Browser sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days and TOR Browser Private + VPN sells 8 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Onion Browser has 13K ratings behind it against 2.3K, so its average is the more settled of the two.
