# Area Code vs Texter

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Area Code at none against Texter's 10. Area Code also leads on review sentiment (33% vs 21%). Texter's advantage is ads (none vs shown) and rating (4.6 vs 4.3). On price, update cadence and iOS requirement there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Texter sells 10 in-app purchases, starting at $3.99 per 7 days. Area Code asks for nothing beyond the download.

Texter holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Texter has 1.2K ratings behind it against 82, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 33% of Area Code's written reviews are positive against 21% of Texter's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Both ship on a similar rhythm, roughly monthly. The most recent releases landed on September 30, 2026 and October 9, 2026 respectively.
