# Scrivener vs Campfire

The clearest difference is price: Campfire at Free against Scrivener's $23.99. Campfire also leads on update cadence (fortnightly vs every 3 months). Scrivener's advantage is ratings volume (2.6K vs 197) and chart position (#11 vs unranked). On rating, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Campfire is free to download; Scrivener costs $23.99 up front. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Campfire holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scrivener has 2.6K ratings behind it against 197, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 46% of Scrivener's written reviews are positive against 44% of Campfire's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Scrivener ships an update every 3 months, Campfire fortnightly. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 30, 2026 respectively.
