# MagPaint vs Write Chinese

MagPaint and Write Chinese both sit at 3.7 stars, but that hides the real split: 100% of MagPaint's written reviews are positive against 47% of Write Chinese's. MagPaint also leads on ads (none vs shown) and iOS requirement (7.0 vs 15.0). Write Chinese's advantage is ratings volume (35 vs 3) and update cadence (every 2 months vs every 5 months). On price, rating, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. MagPaint sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Write Chinese sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

MagPaint holds the better App Store score, 3.7 against 3.5. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Write Chinese has 35 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 100% of MagPaint's written reviews are positive against 47% of Write Chinese's.

MagPaint ships an update every 5 months, Write Chinese every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 5, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
