# Proton Mail vs Bean Tracker

The clearest difference is rating: Proton Mail at 4.8 against Bean Tracker's 4.0. Proton Mail also leads on ads (none vs shown) and update cadence (every 10 days vs every 8 months). Bean Tracker's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 6) and iOS requirement (12.0 vs 17.2). On price, review sentiment and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Mail sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Bean Tracker asks for nothing beyond the download.

Proton Mail holds the better App Store score, 4.8 against 4.0. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Mail has 48K ratings behind it against 41, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 47% of Proton Mail's written reviews are positive against 53% of Bean Tracker's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Proton Mail ships an update every 10 days, Bean Tracker every 8 months. The most recent releases landed on October 14, 2026 and October 4, 2026 respectively.
