# Proton Mail vs Rool

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Proton Mail at 48K against Rool's 3. Proton Mail also leads on chart position (#63 vs unranked). Rool's advantage is rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (15.0 vs 17.2). On price, update cadence, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Mail sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month and Rool sells 2 in-app purchases, starting at $12.99 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Rool holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Mail has 48K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Proton Mail ships an update every 10 days, Rool fortnightly. Both last shipped on October 18, 2026.
