# Proton Mail vs Grouper

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Grouper at none against Proton Mail's 6. Grouper also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8). Proton Mail's advantage is ratings volume (48K vs 1) and chart position (#58 vs unranked). On price, update cadence, ads and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Proton Mail sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $5.99 per month. Grouper asks for nothing beyond the download.

Grouper holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Proton Mail has 48K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two.

Proton Mail ships an update every 10 days, Grouper every 8 days. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
