# Watch Chess vs Cubesc

The clearest difference is ads: Watch Chess at none against Cubesc's shown. Watch Chess also leads on rating (4.5 vs 4.2) and ratings volume (82 vs 16). Cubesc's advantage is review sentiment (81% vs 64%) and monetization model (ad-supported vs freemium). On price, update cadence, in-app purchases and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Watch Chess sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days and Cubesc sells 1 one-off in-app purchase. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Watch Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 4.2. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Watch Chess has 82 ratings behind it against 16, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 64% of Watch Chess's written reviews are positive against 81% of Cubesc's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Watch Chess ships an update every 2 weeks, Cubesc monthly. Both last shipped on October 20, 2026.
