# Watch Chess vs Chess Cats

The clearest difference is rating: Watch Chess at 4.5 against Chess Cats's 3.7. Watch Chess also leads on ratings volume (83 vs 3) and device support (5 vs 2). Chess Cats's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 3) and review sentiment (100% vs 67%). On price and ads there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Watch Chess sells 3 in-app purchases, starting at $0.99 per 7 days. Chess Cats asks for nothing beyond the download.

Watch Chess holds the better App Store score, 4.5 against 3.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Watch Chess has 83 ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 67% of Watch Chess's written reviews are positive against 100% of Chess Cats's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Watch Chess ships an update fortnightly, Chess Cats every 4 days. The most recent releases landed on October 29, 2026 and October 20, 2026 respectively.
