# R vs Scanner

The clearest difference is review sentiment: Scanner at 36% against R's 0%. Scanner also leads on update cadence (weekly vs every 5 months) and ratings volume (223K vs 1). R's advantage is in-app purchases (none vs 13) and ads (none vs shown). On price and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Scanner sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $4.99 per 7 days. R asks for nothing beyond the download.

R holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Scanner has 223K ratings behind it against 1, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 0% of R's written reviews are positive against 36% of Scanner's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

R ships an update every 5 months, Scanner weekly. The most recent releases landed on October 4, 2026 and October 21, 2026 respectively.
