# Private Notes and Secret Diary vs Notepad

The clearest difference is ads: Private Notes and Secret Diary at none against Notepad's shown. Private Notes and Secret Diary also leads on iOS requirement (8.0 vs 16.6). Notepad's advantage is rating (4.3 vs 3.9) and update cadence (every 3 months vs every 10 months). On price, review sentiment, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Private Notes and Secret Diary sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Notepad sells 5 in-app purchases, starting at $1.49 per month. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Notepad holds the better App Store score, 4.3 against 3.9. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Notepad has 64 ratings behind it against 8, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 38% of Private Notes and Secret Diary's written reviews are positive against 33% of Notepad's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Private Notes and Secret Diary ships an update every 10 months, Notepad every 3 months. Both last shipped on October 24, 2026.
