# Star Writer vs Craft

The clearest difference is in-app purchases: Star Writer at none against Craft's 10. Star Writer also leads on rating (5.0 vs 4.8) and iOS requirement (9.0 vs 17.0). Craft's advantage is update cadence (every 10 days vs every 42 months) and ratings volume (6.6K vs 6). On price, review sentiment, ads and device support there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Craft sells 9 in-app purchases, starting at $9.99 per month. Star Writer asks for nothing beyond the download.

Star Writer holds the better App Store score, 5.0 against 4.8. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Craft has 6.6K ratings behind it against 6, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 83% of Star Writer's written reviews are positive against 85% of Craft's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Star Writer ships an update every 42 months, Craft every 10 days. The most recent releases landed on October 3, 2026 and October 16, 2026 respectively.
