# Google Cardboard vs Ugears AR

The clearest difference is rating: Ugears AR at 3.2 against Google Cardboard's 2.7. Ugears AR also leads on update cadence (monthly vs every 3 months) and iOS requirement (13.0 vs 15.0). Google Cardboard's advantage is ratings volume (678 vs 11) and review sentiment (27% vs 13%). On price, ads, in-app purchases and monetization model there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

Ugears AR holds the better App Store score, 3.2 against 2.7. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Google Cardboard has 678 ratings behind it against 11, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews complicate that: 27% of Google Cardboard's written reviews are positive against 13% of Ugears AR's, so the app with the better star average is not the one people write more warmly about.

Google Cardboard ships an update every 3 months, Ugears AR monthly. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 5, 2026 respectively.
