# Square vs Square Connect

Square and Square Connect both sit at 4.8 stars, but that hides the real split: 57% of Square Connect's written reviews are positive against 25% of Square's. Square Connect also leads on monetization model (free vs ad-supported) and device support (3 vs 1). Square's advantage is update cadence (weekly vs every 2 months) and ratings volume (3.4K vs 3). On price, rating, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Neither carries in-app purchases, so what you see is what you pay.

On the App Store both sit at effectively the same score — 4.8 for Square against 4.7 for Square Connect. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Square has 3.4K ratings behind it against 3, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews are what separate them: 25% of Square's written reviews are positive against 57% of Square Connect's.

Square ships an update weekly, Square Connect every 2 months. The most recent releases landed on October 19, 2026 and October 14, 2026 respectively.
