# Word Count vs Simple Spreadsheet

The clearest difference is ratings volume: Simple Spreadsheet at 7K against Word Count's 48. Simple Spreadsheet also leads on rating (4.6 vs 4.3). Word Count's advantage is update cadence (every 9 days vs every 3 weeks) and iOS requirement (8.0 vs 14.0). On price, review sentiment, ads and in-app purchases there is nothing between them.

Both are free to download. Word Count sells 1 one-off in-app purchase and Simple Spreadsheet sells 6 in-app purchases, starting at $6.99 per year. Whichever you choose, the download price is not the number that matters.

Simple Spreadsheet holds the better App Store score, 4.6 against 4.3. That said, the two scores are not equally well evidenced: Simple Spreadsheet has 7K ratings behind it against 48, so its average is the more settled of the two. Written reviews point the same way: 42% of Word Count's written reviews are positive against 44% of Simple Spreadsheet's.

Word Count ships an update every 9 days, Simple Spreadsheet every 3 weeks. The most recent releases landed on October 21, 2026 and October 25, 2026 respectively.
