Every week since June 2024, cartoonist Gary B. Martin has published a new Burford in the West Side Rag — New York City's beloved neighborhood newspaper covering the Upper West Side. The Burfords are salt-of-the-earth New Yorkers: ordinary people captured with affection, wit, and the kind of gentle humanity that makes you smile on the subway. This app collects the whole run in a single gallery — the first hundred and every week since, in one place for the first time — and each new week's cartoon arrives in the app on its own. THE COMMENTS ARE HALF THE FUN The West Side Rag's readers are a chorus, and they came along: 2,787 reader comments are collected here alongside the cartoons they responded to. Neighbors recognizing neighbors, arguing about a stoop, claiming they know exactly which building that is. Read them with the strip instead of scrolling past it, and when a cartoon moves you to say something, tap through to add your own comment on the live article. DATED AND IN ORDER Each entry carries its original publication date and its week number, so the collection reads as what it is — a running weekly record of one neighborhood, drawn one Sunday at a time. PUT ONE ON PAPER AirPrint any cartoon straight from the app. Or put your own name on a Burford Fan Club card and print that — it comes out at 3.5 × 2 inches on business-card stock, and fits a standard photo print too. If you want a real print made for you, the app hands you off to independent print partners; it isn't affiliated with them and doesn't take your order or your payment.
