Buggy

Bought the app and 100 additional climbs. Lost my phone. On the new phone it suggests I could redownload them for free, but this always fails. I can’t rebuy them either

Loved but now freezing

I hoped the latest update would fix this. I love this app and it’s encouraging me to explore but it’s recently started freezing on both my iPad and iPhone. Is this a known issue, I wonder? I go into the map, zoom in somewhere and it freezes.

Removed

Had to remove this app and all associated due to a bad taste comment made (on twitter) by the person who runs this and also unsubscribed from veloveiwer, truly regret giving him 1p.

Challenge accomplished

My favourite app of all time. I got it three years ago having already bought the book. I completed the 100 climbs last year. The app was particularly helpful linking to my phone’s mapping tools so when I was in an unfamiliar region in the middle of nowhere I could still get to the right place.
Beware though: occasionally a Strava segment finishes a bit further than you think - I had to do Winlatter 3 times before it logged.
Once you’ve got the app it’s easy to add extra books of climbs on for not much extra cash.

Why won’t it add one of my Wales climbs?

It’s worked well but it won’t add a climb I did 4 weeks ago. It’s there in Strava and I have updated the app

Not all loading

Rode the Mennock pass number 63,4 days ago, but not showing. Deleted the App & reloaded still not showing.

Response from developer

Get in touch via the Facebook support page and we can sort out your issue with Mennock pass.

Still need a spreadsheet

Bought this hoping to track which rides I’ve done but can’t add the ones that I did before Strava. The reasoning is they don’t want people cheating but I don’t care about their leaderboards and they could exclude these anyway. This ability to manually add is even more important now that you need to be a Strava subscriber to use it.

Response from developer

The climbs ticked in the app don't update the leaderboards. If you want to tick climbs done before Strava you can opt out of the syncing and use the manual.

Shut up legs

I’ve got the books , so held off for a while on the app thinking I wouldn’t need it . However , really glad I bought it , helps to bring the books to life as you have all the info in your pocket . The map view is also really helpful is planning your next climb . It may be an idea to add a comments section on each climb , would be interesting to see other people’s views on the climbs and the ratings given.

Hoped this would be good for showing progress

Hoped I’d be able to see which ones I’ve completed, however ones I’ve done which show up on Strava when you follow it to the Strava app do not show up on the progress.

Some do, some don’t. Seems like fundamental functionality really. Fix this and I’d be perfectly satisfied with the cost

Is it clear enough that you have to buy the regional climbs separately?

I admit I read the blurb fairly quickly but I didn’t realise you only get the 100 climbs, not the “another 100” or the regional guides. Having re-read the blurb it clearly talks about 548 rides being available and doesn’t say you have to pay extra for each additional set of climbs. I think the description could be much clearer. I don’t think I am going to bother opening the other sections and put this down to experience.

Developer has fixed the app. Yay!

App now seems to sync up with strava and works the way I expect it too. :D

Response from developer

If you are having problems with the app registering climbs check the FAQ here https://www.facebook.com/notes/100-greatest-cycling-climbs-app/faq/226096271127426/ . If that dose not help try getting in touch on the support page. There is usually a problem with the segment and we always get the bottom of the problem. Sometimes people have just not done the climb right or done it the wrong way. Privacy settings also cause a problem. If its a private ride the app can see it! Not sure how the map could be any clearer to be honest ;)

Good companion to the book

Works well and the map is nicely done. Inclusion of Another 100 Greatest Cycling Climbs is a good move. Now more essential with regional climbs included.

Link to Strava stopped working

Useful for information on the climbs but for some reason my app has stopped syncing to Strava which means that it’s not updating any of the climbs I’ve recently done - a touch frustrating and rendering the app not much use to me unfortunately.
If there’s a way to update manually I can’t find it.

Response from developer

I wonder if something has changed in your strava security settings which means the app can no longer access your strava data. Check out the faq here https://www.facebook.com/notes/100-greatest-cycling-climbs-app/faq/226096271127426/ and if you still have problems then send me a link to an activity that hasn't synced and I'll check it out. The app sends over 75,000 requests to strava every day and we haven't found an issue with the app syncing matched segments yet, that could not be sorted. That is except for when some one has ridden the wrong way and the segment didn't match ;)

Massively overpriced!

£6 for this? Daylight robbery! Get the book instead.

Response from developer

Its not robbery. You don't have to buy it. Enjoy the book.

Love addition of another 100 but...

Love this app but after the upgrade, the map only shows climbs in southeast and southwest. Bug fix please?

More please

Love this app, but having spent a week cycling in Cumbria and another on the North York Moors I want more hills added! New rd in Robin Hood's bay for example!

A great addition and well thought out.

Ok so you've got the books, why buy the app? Well apart from the obvious joy of seeing that number update I'd say one of the things I most value is the map feature, which really helps match up climbs on route planning. The directions tool is also really useful in seeing how to actually get to climbs and how far away.
If you're working through and enjoying finding and climbing these classic climbs then investing the price of a couple of coffees will increase the fun and help with planning. Go on treat yourself, you know you're worth it ;-)
Seriously good app.

Great little app

Brilliant app and easy to use. Would like to see category rating and the ability to link to Google Maps, not Apple Maps.

Great app, needs more books covered

Love this. Great way of presenting the content so it's directly usable and links to Strava. Please add the content from the other books.

Great App

Awesome app and brings the book to life and has given me much more motivation to go and find the climbs!
