  • Buggy

This app is useful but (1) doesn’t work with wireless headphones; (2) is a bit buggy - is it stops working
  • Help

    2 technical bugs
1, will not work with blutooth speaker - only uses internal speakers

2, and the more serious one: I have this on my iPad but it will not download to my iPhone (signed in to store on same account) without me paying again... sort quickly please!
  • Useful but restricted...

I do find this useful - I find aural very hard - and I use both this one and the Grade 1 - Grade 5 version. I am making most use of the moment of Grade 8 because of what I will hope will be my next exam. Why only 3 stars? I only seem these days to get a very small number of examples - only about 4 or 5 in 8a for example - which the program constantly recycles. The questions are taken from the various printed volumes of aural tests and so I think there should be a lot more.

  • Sight singing grade 6-8

How do you check that you pitched the right note after the exercise apart from playing back what you’ve sung? I am unable to find that option. Please help.
  • ABRSM AURAL TRAINER 6-8

Great app but family sharing is a nightmare. Have already had to buy the app 3 times as it keeps failing to share to my kids phones.

Also beware not to “upgrade to full version” from within the “lite version” as this can’t be shared for some reason either.
  • Great app

I think this is a great app and very useful as i am doing my grade 8 flute in summer! The only thing I would suggest is can you make the cadence quiz be a little more varied - I keep doing the quiz and I keep getting the same cadences over and over: either a plagal, a perfect V-l, a lV-l and a l-V. It’s a little annoying as I want to learn all of the cadences by memory not just a few of the same ones

Apart from that I think this app is great and definitely worth the money :)

  • Cadence trainer needs work

I found this app somewhat helpful for training cadences but it seems that only a few of the selection ever come up. After a long time of practice the I-V, V-VI, V-1 and IV-I were the only ones to ever come up. I would also suggest that cadences weren’t always in the same key as it is very easy to get used to them.

  • Lost my sight singing progress and other issues

I am trying to practice the melodic repetition questions, and when I get through to the ‘listen back to your attempt’ page and click on one of the options, I instead get directed to the sight reading I tried previously. Also the app seems to have lost all of my sight singing progress since the last update and it now looks like I have made no sight singing attempts. Not very impressed at all.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your comment. After singing back the stated part of a 2- or 3-part melody, you then have the option to listen back to your performance. At this point, you are also shown the notation of the melody you were just asked to sing back, either on its own or with the other parts. These melodies are unique to the melodic repetition exercises - they are not used in the sight-singing exercises. Regarding the sight-singing progress, in order for this to be recorded you must rate your attempt with either a yellow ‘neutral’ face or green ‘happy’ face. If you do not rate your performance, or you rate it with a red ‘sad’ face, your progress will not be recorded. If you need further assistance please contact auraltrainer@abrsm.ac.uk
  • Fairly Helpful

It does help and it’s a lot more practical than a cd. What would benefit is that for melodic repetition, there used to be a feature I thought where it would repeat back what you sang at the checking point. Maybe I just didn’t enable something, but that was pretty sad. It’s also not much of a trainer, but more like a mock exam.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your comment. There are 2 feedback options in the melodic repetition exercise: to hear the correct melody with the accompaniment, followed by your own response; and to hear the correct melody on its own, followed by your response. In both of these options, the app plays back what you sang. Please make sure Aural Trainer is allowed to access your microphone by going to Settings>Aural Trainer>Microphone and moving the switch to the ‘on’ position.
