3.2

October 6, 2023

In Lokate 3.2, we have made significant enhancements to improve the handling of imported data, fostering a better integration with third-party applications like CalTopo. Lokate 3.2 introduces the concept of an Active Area, allowing you to assign any of the imported area Map Items as Active. Lokate will continuously update your positional information in relation to this area, whether you are inside or outside it, providing details such as the distance to the closest boundary and heading. This valuable information is also conveniently displayed on your connected Apple Watch. Furthermore, Lokate 3.2 now consolidates all imported data, whether in GPX or geoJSON format, into a unified repository associated with your assignment. You can import data from various GPX or geoJSON sources as many times as needed. Lokate intelligently recognizes any previously imported data and seamlessly merges it into a single collection. You can easily browse and make imported data visible through the Map Item’s menu. Here's a summary of the new features and improvements in Lokate 3.2: * Assignment Detail View's functions have been moved into a convenient pull-down menu at the top, allowing the map to extend to the bottom of your phone's screen. * You can now export individual assignments to CSV, enhancing data management capabilities. * The HUD now displays the handler's distance traveled, providing more comprehensive tracking information. * Assignment time duration is now prominently shown, improving mission monitoring. * Map Items in the list can be collapsed by segment, allowing for better organization. * We have removed the share options on/off preference settings, simplifying the user experience. * To improve usability, all HUD items (except coordinates) now feature intuitive glyphs for easier identification. We have also addressed several issues to enhance the overall user experience, including: * Resolving CSV export issues related to text containing commas, ensuring compatibility with software like Excel or Numbers. * Fixing various map item import issues for smoother data integration. * Addressing anomalies related to large values displayed on Apple Watch for distance to area. * Ensuring the mark position button on Apple Watch functions reliably. * Eliminating duplicate appearances of Map Items in the list. * Alphabetically sorting Map Items for better organization. * Correcting the behavior where pausing, stopping, and canceling would unintentionally resume recording. Please take note of the following: * Lokate 3 does not integrate directly with common K9 GPS trackers like Garmin. Intellecy inc. is actively working on integration with its own tracking hardware in future releases. * Lokate 3 is NOT COMPATIBLE with Lokate 2 data formats. If you are upgrading from Lokate 2, it is essential to export your data (HTML export) before upgrading to prevent data loss. * As of Lokate 3.2, the HTML documentation export feature has been temporarily removed. We have plans to reintroduce it in a more comprehensive manner in the future.

3.1.1

This version of Lokate focuses on empowering users to create comprehensive training logs. Now, with this added functionality, you can easily fill out a Log Form for each recorded assignment. Training logs are crucial for monitoring progress and are often required by many localities for effective K9 training. A training log may be added to each recorded assignment and can be exported to CSV for review in third party applications (such as a spreadsheet). Understanding that every user's logging needs may differ, Lokate also introduces the Form Builder function. This powerful tool enables you to design custom log templates tailored to your specific requirements. By creating personalized log templates, you can efficiently standardize formats and easily share them with your unit, streamlining the process of data management and analysis. In addition to the new log function, this version brings a host of stability improvements and fixes, the most prominent are: * Stop recording and Pause recording now require a long press (0.75 seconds). This to combat having these functions activated while your iPhone is in your pocket. * Starting a recording without a name now fills the name with todays date and time. * Stopping a recording now provides a brief confirmation message. * An uncalibrated compass previously led to heading information shown "-1", it now states "Cal Compass" * Fixed a crash in clue markers when taking a picture

Description of Lokate

Lokate 3 is a purpose-driven application designed to streamline GPS track recording for SAR (Search & Rescue) missions specifically for canine handlers and their canine. Lokate provides canine team specific functions no other app does and functions seamlessly alongside 3rd party GPS tracking software like CalTopo, allowing you to focus solely on your assigned tasks. Lokate 3 is especially valuable for documenting the tracks of you and your K9 partner during missions or training sessions. During missions, quick access to critical information is paramount. To facilitate this, Lokate offers a Heads-Up Display (HUD) that hovers above the map, providing immediate access to seven essential parameters. These parameters can be tailored to display crucial details, including your current position, travel speed, travel heading, altitude, distance and heading to the assignment area, distance traveled, and time spent on the mission assignment. Imported data such as Area, Path and Marker information can be shown as overlays and your assigned Area clearly marked and tracked with positional data giving you positional awareness in the overall mission plan. - Map navigation styles: fixed, North-up, heading up - Map styles: street, satellite. - Map Item overlays including Area, Path, Markers. - Map features HUD (heads up display) area showing pertinent location and mission information - Record handler’s position with configurable accuracy. - Record found clues; position marked, text or images may be recorded with clue. - Images are kept in secure storage with Lokate and meta data includes position and heading when taken. - “Active Area” tracks your position and distance to or within assignment area. - Import GPX, geoJSON data from 3rd party applications. - Create handler or canine track from imported data. - Create training logs using configurable templates - Share log templates - Export track data to geoJSON for import in 3rd party applications. - Export log data to CSV for import in spreadsheets - Support of Apple Watch; shows your Active Area position, take a marker position. - Night vision “red filter” support. - Adaptive scalable parameters show values with relevant precision.

Reviews of Lokate

  • Good app!

Looks like a good companion app for canine handlers. I like the ability to log training results associated with a GPS track. Makes for a more complete review later on.
  • This is what I was looking!

I’ve been using this program for a while now. It’s stable and very well designed. It started off as a really good tool for search and rescue, I have a trailing dog. But with each new upgrade, the programmer seems to recognize the challenges and importance of quality mapping/information while on missions. I have used other programs in the past, and I find that I no longer. This program seems to have it all. Love it!

Lokate is great and for $4 it’s a simple decision to purchase. It’s an excellent investment in getting the most out of trainings.
  • Finally, an app for K9s and SAR

The developer’s focus to make this app more and more K9 focus is great. Finally we have something for us dog folks. Still rough around the edges but already useful to record handler data. The 3D map capability has helped me gain terrain understanding quicker and better than I can get from SARTopo. The app works in paralllel with SARTopo so you don’t have to decide one or the other. Developer has said we’ll soon get training logs! Can’t wait to see the next version.
