Personal Diary (Journal) App User Reviews

Super amazing

This app is absolutely perfect, so the only reason I’m writing a review is to suggest they add something:

The app has a feature where you can add images to your diary entry, and I was wondering if they could also add a feature where you can add videos to your entries as well.

Other than that, this app is perfect!

Hi there, Glad you liked the app! I'll try adding these functionalities in a future update. - Wern Jie

Exactly what I was looking for!!!

I’d been looking for a simple-to-use, basic journaling app to record daily thoughts and this app is PERFECT for just that. I love that you can include photos and with iCloud backup, it easily syncs to my other Apple devices. The reminder option is helpful, and like that I have the option to turn it on/off. The fact that this app has NO ADS and is FREE is awesome. It’s an elegantly simple, yet very useful app. Writing things down can be so therapeutic especially during these unprecedented times; whether its a lengthy entry, or just a few words or lines. Life goes by in such a blur and I’m glad to have found a quick way to record and look back on my own impressions of daily life. My thanks to this app’s brilliant young creator, keep up the good work! 😁

Love it so far!

Tried several different diary/journal apps and liked this one the most. Love that the entries are easy to edit and I can export them. Love that I can add images to the entries. You can add an emoji to express your mood and document the weather. The search feature is also really handy.

Great Journaling App... All the fundamental tools and sync.

Along with others... I was a devoted user of a very popular old journal app and frustrated with their changing business model.

I have tried many of the best replacements and this app is still the winner. The developer is very responsive to new ideas and has made the transition painless. I believe this app will evolve to be the best, very quickly.

Clean user interface, iCloud sync, multiple photos, weather capture, easy read timeline. Tags are on the developers list... so use hashtags for now. The iOS base app needs a MacOS companion, but I think that is just a question of time.

Hi there, Thank you for the feedback, and glad you enjoyed using the app! I'll add more features on the way, and the macOS version is being developed and will be out soon. Stay tuned! :) - Wern Jie

Great Free app

Was looking for a free replacement with iCloud sync for Day One and found this little gem! I call it little but it actually does all I need, which includes inserting photos and the weather for the day. Diary is easy to use and syncs across my iPhone and iPad without issue. I really don’t like having to sign up for extra cloud services so the iCloud sync was the most important feature I was looking for in a journaling app. No ads and no pressure to pay but the option is there if you want to use it as I did. I’m sure that, like any programmer, the author will probably make changes over time. Just hope he keeps it nice and simple like it is now.

A Simple Diary

I have been using a digital travel diary for several years but wanted something more. I didn’t want a lot more, just a little more. Personal Diary is just a little more, but maybe too little more.

I like that it quickly saves to iCloud so you can start an entry on one device and continue it on another. I also like the ability to add photos to an entry. The best part, of course, is that this app is ad-free.

On the negative side, I don’t like that you can see the listing of entries on the front screen. If you have a lot of entries, it could take you a while to find the one you want. I think it would be much better to see a calendar from which you could quickly search for your entries. It does include a search box which works very well, but if you’re looking for a particular date, you’ll have to scroll through all your content to find it. Also, when text is selected on my iPad, the context menu glitches in and out so you can’t choose anything on it.

This is a good start, and I like it’s simplicity over the bigger journal apps. But it could use a few touches to make it better.

Hi there, Thank you very much for your feedback! Do note that if you're looking for an entry written on a specific date, the Smart Search bar can find it too. Just type the date (in any format, such as "Jan 1, 2020") into the search bar and you'll be able to find the entry with the closest date shown up on top in the Timeline. I'll add a calendar in the future, but for now Smart Search should work for your use case. :) Regarding the context menu glitch, can you please try restarting your iPad? I'm unable to reproduce the bug, so perhaps restarting may help resolve the issue. Alternatively, do contact me via email (you can do so through the Timeline > Settings > App Support > "Report a Problem via email"), I'd be able to respond faster that way. Hope to hear your reply! - Wern Jie

Corrupted dates

I have been using thus App for sometime and on a number of times the entries have had their dates erroneously changed. It has happened again today. The App is unreliable, so I have decided to discontinue using it.

I hate this app

I don’t like this app because I can’t write anything and all it focus on is emojis and the weather and time and date

Response from developer

Hi there, It is possible to write in this app (as shown in the first two screenshots of the App Store), simply by tapping on the centre of the screen in the Entry page to invoke the keyboard. I'm sorry for any confusion you may have while using the app. You're also recommended to type your feelings and what happened throughout the day anyway, or otherwise most other features like automatic mood (emoji) selection do not work. All mood and weather options can also be turned off if you dislike them, by setting "No mood and weather by default" in settings. Hope this helps! Please do try the app again and update your review. You may also find the tutorial helpful by going to Personal Diary > Timeline > App Tutorial, which would have shown you that you can type in the centre of the screen within the Entry page. - Wern Jie
