Update: connectivity seems to be much better now. It only takes a couple seconds to get reconnected instead of needing to close the app multiple times. Great game!
The game is fun. If you like the game you will like the app. However, the server is constantly going down and you lose access to the app. It’s very frustrating. I never know if I’ll be able to get connected again. Fix this issue and it becomes at least 4 stars, maybe 5.

Thank youThe game, when you can play it, is great. Smooth, and fun. Found no bugs. But every one of my online games is just waiting on other players. And after you take 10 minutes to do all of the single player games, there’s literally nothing else to do. I wish I could just play as many solo games as I wanted, though. I don’t see why we can’t just do as many clues as we want and get random one-off clues as we want. This is what the daily things are, but they’re limited. I don’t know why.
Codenames (the board game) got me into modern board gaming, so it has a special place in my heart. I was worried that this app was going to be a cash grab (especially since you can play for free online), but quickly discovered that it was made with an incredible amount of love and attention to detail.
There are extra modes, plenty of achievements and unlockables—so many reasons to keep coming back to the app (beyond the solid core gameplay). Plus, NO MICROTRANSACTIONS. It’s a great reminder of what games can be when they’re not designed to pressure you into buying something to speed up a countdown clock.
Fantastic game, fantastic implementation. It adds so many fun extras into the core experience. Absolutely worth the entrance fee.
This is Codenames with so many fun and engaging digital extras, from additional mission types to achievements to spymaster challenges. The leveling system makes complete sense and the gradual upgrades and unlocks are well considered. I find it easy to enjoy this game for a few minutes or half an hour as time permits. Now to connect with my family and friends…

[Edited my original review because English is supported now] As a long time fan of the board game, I’m enjoying this app quite a lot. Incredibly smooth and user friendly interface. Tutorials do a great job explaining the rules. Fun single player “missions” to do while waiting for your turn in the live games. I’m also very happy to see that there is an offline Pass & Play mode. Overall very happy with the game and looking forward to discovering what else there is to unlock

I thought it would simply be a digital adaptation of the physical game but this app has vastly exceeding my expectations. With daily challenges, unlockable themed words and revolutionary new game modes, this app takes the enjoyable, basic structure of Codenames and makes it so much more dynamic! Whether you prefer to give clues or guess the words (or both!), this app is incredibly fun and rewarding. When it comes to adapting board games to the digital space, the CGE Team has shown an impressive display of what is truly possible and set a high standard that I would love to see across the board… games.

Thank you so so much for your review! Yes, if you jumped on the very first release it was in Czech. Now, English is readily available.
This takes the board game and the browser game and adds several awesome dimensions! There are many different puzzle and multiplayer modes that you unlock with XP (and shiny trophies!), and with exposure to new and different dynamics over time.
CGE gamified their already awesome game which is super meta and I’m here for it.

Thank you very much for this review!When I first downloaded the app, everything was in Czech with no option to switch to English. I deleted it and planned to request a refund after the charge cleared. Fortunately, the developers resolved the issue. When I redownloaded it, I could choose between English and Czech right from the beginning. The game is straightforward in a positive way—easy to navigate and play. Some parts involve guessing words, while others require providing clues. It exactly what I would want from the digital version of codenames
