Best fish ID app

Been using the app for quite a long time and every once in a while I come across something that I can’t ID. This time I had to refer it to Admin as I couldn’t see it in the database anywhere. Kristian (admin) was also stuck but managed to ID it after a few days with the assistance of the Australian Museum. It turned out to be a Sculptured Frogfish which is something Kristian has never seen before.
This app is hands down the best Fish ID app around and the level of support you receive is outstanding.
If you haven’t already got the app download it now - you won’t regret it.

Better than google or your local fisho!

Whether you're out in the mangroves with no data, or fishing off your local jetty, this app has you covered with just about any and every species in our Aussie waters (with included methods on how to catch fish too). All rules and size limits and warnings are highly accurate too, and I have nothing to give as an improvement for the app. A true identification powerhouse.

Very nice app

Not requiring internet it's a big one but that's what you need out on the water. Great pics, all the info about catching them and whether they eat good, even how to prepare them. To top it all off I had one that just wasn't obvious to me from the pic I'd taken, my friend nailed it but I wanted to confirm with app. I failed to navigate the menu because I didn't show top fin very well in my photo but the help feature replied within minutes at odd hours with the ID. Genuinely better than expected app, support and cost seems reasonable for someone learning the fish in their area

Highly recommended

I have been using this APP now for years, probably soon after it was first released. It is regularly updated and even better it works off line so you don’t need to worry about having mobile coverage or data.
It is easy to use and ID fish bases on colour, mouth shape, stripes, spots etc. gradually narrowing down the possibilities of your catch.
One hand little feature I love too is the size and position limits as well as season closure dates. Or a no take.
The app will let you know if that species is noxious, or even table quality if it has a rating. If the fish is toxic it will also provide this info too.

Great App!!!

Really good. I have never been quite sure exactly what that huge shark was that I caught at coral bay. I used the app but made one mistake and did not agree with the result. The app offers you to send the moderator a photo and they ID it for you. I sent them the pic but wasn’t sure how long they would take to answer so I went through it on the app again making more careful selections and it came up as a Lemon Shark. I then received an email from the app moderator saying it was a Lemon shark and they sent me a video demo of how they used the app to identify it.
So Cool! Great Support!

Amazing app

I caught a fish today that I had no clue what species it was, and my partner usually knows every fish type but this one had us both stumped.
I spent a lot of time googling what it could be and eventually I gave up. I typed up best fish ID app and this one popped up. I couldn’t describe it very well but sent in an application to get it verified . Got an email about 15 mins later (at 12am on a Sunday) telling me what the fish was as well as how to find out what to search. Ended up being a southern smiler. Just a heads up for getting this app $10 a year and downloading the app takes a bit of time.
But for $10 a year, you can see the legal measurements for different species, identification, very quick emails back for unknown species, as well as places where you can find the different fish.
Very good app for people starting to fish either offshore or on land. Even just people that are curious about what they are catching.

Awesome app, highly recommend

I have had this app for years now and it is so handy to have when you are fishing especially if you catch a certain fish and can’t remember the finer details, a quick search and your away!!
Also if you send photos in of fish you’re unsure about the team almost literally get back to you straight away with an answer! Highly recommend this app to anyone that’s a novice right thru to the most experienced that fish all the time. It gives you important details like size and bag limits.

Wow! Impressive app and support

Downloaded the app after trying to track down 2 species I had caught that were new to me and friends. The first one was super easy to find via the easy to use interface on the app. The second one I couldn’t locate as we had released the fish and didn’t have adequate information required (teeth etc). The app provides a function where if you can’t find your fish you can submit a picture. Well I did so and the developers of the app replied in the 10min with not only the fish but a video of how they located it. Impressive

Awesome app

We caught some fish on the NSW south coast that weren’t coming up on the NSW fisheries website or anywhere we could find. The app found one fish for us on the app with the fish ID and the second one we couldn’t find on the fish ID but when I submitted the photo to the experts they came back and identified it straight away. Excellent app. All the other ones we tried were not ‘free’ and even when we paid to identify fish they couldn’t, this is the best one for sure. I’m keeping my subscription.
Thank you

IDfish, top of the Apps.

This app is so refreshing to see. No only is it finally an app that helps you out on the water to identify your catch but also keeps you regulated with the bag limit for the identified fish. With a easy to use platform for identification across the board of all types of sea life. It also brings the family together, as a family we enjoy trying to look through and find out what type of fish it is, to the point my kids have races to see who can get it the quickest. Throughly enjoy the app and is on the first page on all my devices. Cheers Corey McQ.
