  • Great for beginners

I've just started learning to play and have found this app to be helping. I've not just learned the rules, but the fundamentals of play. I wish there was a little more commentary on the practice sessions.
  • Avoid if you're a beginner

This app is crazy confusing, has no guide on how to use it, and it makes you dislike chess. I wish I never paid for it.
  • A lot for free

Great beginner training tool. It gets quite challenging! I loved it so much, I bought the full course.
  • Great App

I have half a dozen chess apps and this one is my favorite. It does a great job explaining the fundamentals of chess: rules, tactics, basic openings and endgame play. The interface is clean and easy to use. The puzzles reinforce the information presented are are quite challenging. The app gives you an elo score based on how your ability to solve the puzzles. Highly recommended!

  • Amazing program.

Great learning tool for becoming a better chess player. The format and layout is well-planned.
  • Just what I need

Great fun learning chess. Lots of positions to teach me what works. Great lessons to help me stay out of a stalemate position.
  • Really beautiful chess app

I am 1800 USCF and I love the tactics trainer included. It show refutations to errors. The whole thing is first class. I am not sure I agree it's only for low rated players. Excellent!
  • Very basic, but effective

I'm finally learning how to play chess. What I like about this program is it saves your progress without issue. I also like the theory and practice sides of things and the scoring system is neat too, although that's not unique to this app.

What this app needs is an interactive 3D chess set which sets up situations and helps you through them in an animated way.

Walls of text work for some people, but it's not the most effective for most. The people who are willing to read walls of text are the ones who already know how to play most likely :)
