I purchased this sensor because I had the idea that it would be nice to get push notifications when my babies diaper was wet. I was thrilled that a product already existed and that these needs. Right off, I have a theory for why this hasn’t caught on, and that’s because the sensor doesn’t work well through plastic, which most disposable diapers are outer lined with. but I used it with a cloth diaper system from Essembly. In this case, I put the Opro9 sensor within the moisture barrier, but still outside of a thick cotton absorbency layer. This seems to give it a very accurate reading of the humidity in the diaper. I get push notifications about diaper status on my watch, which work great. This was especially valuable in the first couple months, when a single diaper change could mean the baby was awake for an hour in the middle of the night. With the sensor push notification, I was sometimes able to change the diaper without the baby waking up, saving precious sleep time.
I’m giving this four stars instead of five because there are just a couple small features that I would ask for in an update. One would be for the ability for two parents to pair to the device, so that parents don’t have to deliberately unpair to give the other parent responsibility over the child.
The other feature would be I would love if the push notification included the current humidity level. The calibration seems a little wonky, and so I pretty much trust my sense of the humidity levels more than I trust the sensor’s estimated wetness rating.
However, it seems that the entire thing is out of production now, it’s no longer on Amazon, and I think I bought the last one on eBay for a friend, so these may just be unavailable now. if you get your hands on one of these, I hope you enjoy it!
