App does not work with Apple Watch as advertised, plus charged immediately without free 3-days trial
The first, it doesn’t work on the Apple Watch as advertised in the App Store. My sole purpose for trying out this app was to see quotes displayed on my Apple Watchface. It doesn’t work. I set the app to appear as the centre complication on the Modular watchface. Instead of showing the quotation, it says “open the application on your cell phone to synchronize phrases”. Naturally, I tried this number of times, as well as rebooting my phone and my watch, as well as removing and then re-adding the app, and nothing works. Note that I have successfully added another Quotes app to my Apple Watch face and exactly the same way without issue. All my other compatible, phone and Apple Watch apps sync perfectly.
Issue number two: Because I couldn’t get it to work, I thought maybe the issue could be resolved by “subscribing” to the app. So far the app isn’t working like it’s supposed to, so obviously I’m not as interested in paying for it. But the developer offered a free first three days trial, so I thought it might be worth a shot to see if I could troubleshoot the problem. However, when I hit the “START FOR FREE”, I was charged immediately. I know this because it’s my practice to always cancel free trials immediately. That way, if I don’t end up liking the aop, I don’t forget and get charged. And if I do find that I want to subscribe to them, I do so consciously. In this case, the app wasn’t even working on my Apple Eatch yet, so I clearly did not intend to pay for it. The clear implications of a free first three days and start for free button is that the customer can try out the app for three days and then cancel before they are up if they don’t wanna be charged., As I’ve said, I was charged immediately.
This is the first time this has ever happened to me by an app or a developer. Usually, I find the people who claim they’re being scammed by being charged without consenting to it, are just upset that they forgot to cancel on time and are not taking responsibility for. That’s not what happened here.
For those who want the app to just work on their iPhone and not their Apple Watch, it does appear to work in that context. However, I can’t vouch for the quotes themselves as I have spent my whole time trying to troubleshoot getting the app to work on my Apple Watch and not paying to the quality of the content.
All in all, a bad experience. I don’t know whether the developer intentionally has misled people promising a free 3 days and employing a “START FOR FREE” subscription button, or if it was just badly worded, but it’s not been a good experience and unless I get a refund, it appears I’ve spent US$20 for nothing. Nobody likes that. And it does seem like the developer is not interested in keeping this app up-to-date. Certainly it doesn’t work on the Apple Watch series 10.
