Chessmatec is one of the very few apps that we keep their ongoing subscription. My 5 y.o loves to play it! I can tell that he's really enjoys it. It looks like so much fun. He has a subscription since he was 4 y.o and he plays about 2-3 hours a week (spread to several days) and today he's finishing course #4 and still continues to play with great interest and fun. The space adventure seems also to boost the interest, and he practices it a lot.
I also want to mention something not obvious - the service / support is really great! I had trouble logging in after an iOS update and I wrote support and they just fixed everything in less than an hour.

Excellent balance between fun and training.
My grandkids (5 and 8) will do this happily without realising they are learning. Some similar apps are biassed more towards fun than learning chess basics. Good support for a self inflicted minor problem.mikebore
This is what a Kids Educational App should be
I have been struggling to find good educational games for kids to play. I have two girls and most kids games have no attention getting ability and have no discernible balance between education and enjoyment. They typically lean heavy into education with little to no enjoyment and require heavy adult interaction. Or, they require little to no adult interaction but rely on over the top tactics that leave very little learning time. This game has done an amazing job at creating this balance. I just got my 7 year old to play through the first three levels and at the end of each level she let out a loud yelp of satisfaction. This is a diamond in the rough for educational games. I do have one request, please create a learn to code game that follows these same strict guidelines because this format is exactly what has been missing from these kids lives. Fun game, terrible subscription
My older son enjoys chess and my younger son wanted to learn. After using the demo, I finally gave in and subscribed for 1 month. I don’t normally do subscription apps but gave in bc this one had a lot to offer for my younger son. My big problem is you can only use this app on one device at a time. I have 2 boys and if they’re both trying to use the app, they can kick the other one out of the app. I will not be subscribing for a second month.Show lesslisa987123654
