Bug fixes

4.0.1

August 8, 2018

Refreshed design and color scheme! It may take some getting used to but the hope is that grouping videos in a similar fashion as a chat app will be more intuitive in the long run. Love it or hate it? Feel free to send through feedback from within the app! New feature - you can now toggle access to a video on or off. When on, the person that the video is linked with is allowed to play back the video as many times as they want. The playback grant feature is still available for when you want more fine-grained control. Online mode is now the only way videos are sync'd, and the toggle for this has been removed. Rest assured - your content will always be end to end encrypted. Local sync mode was difficult to explain and had a bunch of reliability issues making it more and more time consuming to maintain. However, it may be re-introduced in the future in a more transparent way.

Reviews of Rumuki

Dead?

So is this app just dead now? Hasn’t worked for weeks. Developer website has been down as well.

Safely Private

If you want to record cool stuff but don’t want to risk it appearing on the internet, this is the app. Encrypted, multi-stage protection for both persons including access grants and the like. I haven’t experienced anything like this. There is a small learning curve but nothing that can’t be figured out. Would highly recommend.

Not feasible or user friendly

Syncing takes forever. When is a video sharing app feasible when you are taking a video but the other phone has to be near you? Not worth the trouble, there are better encryption options out there.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback GermanChoco, there are definitely certain conditions under which the syncing can be slow or spotty - it's something we've looked a lot into but unfortunately a lot of this depends on your local WiFi infrastructure. One tip is to disconnect both phones from the WiFi network in order to force it to use an ad-hoc network which can be faster. Sorry to hear it hasn't worked out or you, Rumuki is intended to solve a distinct problem whereby a physical-proximity key exchange / transfer guarantees that there aren't any eavesdroppers. It's really more of a two-factor video rights management mechanism rather than a 'sharing app' at this point. If you would like to give it another try, I'd be more than happy to help you troubleshoot any connectivity issues or questions you might have: nathan@rumuki.com
