Squares, to the average observer, is a game with little more value than quick play sessions. Exploring the concept in more detail, however, one finds a genuinely unique concept draped over a tried and true genre (pick up and play). The "painting" mechanic, by which the player chooses where pieces go is one I have not seen before, and it breathes life into a style of game which has, in my opinion, gotten a bit stale. With that in mind, I greatly enjoy the random system by which new color schemes, block styles, and wallpapers. This brings to the table a robust customization system, a feature which I believe is the hallmark of any good mobile puzzle-type game. That being said, even with the gem multipliers earned from watching ads, the rate at which these gems are earned feels slightly slow. To be fair, with Squares' fun gameplay, this is not a huge issue. Overall, I'd definitely recommend Squares to anyone looking for a game which is simultaneously mindless fun and a strategic masterpiece.
