Description of The Language Magician

A language assessment tool in computer game format for students aged 6-9 years, developed by a team of educators from four European countries led by the Goethe-Institut London. *** THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN is free to use for everyone and includes no in-app purchases or advertising. The game’s development is co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union. IMPORTANT: THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN requires a user account (login) free of charge. If you are a teacher and want to register, please go to teacher.thelanguagemagician.net *** THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN evaluates how well children are able to read, write and understand foreign languages in a playful way. The languages tested are English, German, Spanish, Italian and French as a foreign language. The exciting story about the evil magician Winivil, who turns farm animals into doorknockers, makes assessment a magical adventure. Language tasks become playful quests. Charmingly illustrated and with the expertise of ten outstanding partners THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN is a contemporary tool for modern schools. Led by the Goethe-Institute London, these partners contribute to the project: Department of Education of the Spanish Embassy in London, the Ministries of Education in the autonomous regions Rioja and Tenerife, Westminster and Leipzig University and University of Reading, the Universities for Foreigners Siena and Perugia and the Language Teachers' Association in the UK (ALL). About THE LANGUAGE MAGICIAN: *The game’s manual (storyline) is available for children who speak the following languages: German, English, Spanish and Italian. *Languages to be tested can be selected separately from the storyline. Currently these languages can be tested: English, German, Italian, Spanish and French. *The game tests listening comprehension, reading and writing skills and some integrated skills combining these types of tasks. *The 35 minute test units are optimised for school usage. *The game offers a separate web dashboard for teachers, which allows the management of test sessions and provides a real-time progress overview of all participating students. *Detailed test results of all students can be download by teachers. *Lovely illustrated student participation certificates can be downloaded and printed by the teacher. *The game has high data security through encrypted connection, password authentication and the use of code names that are assigned by teachers. Comprehensive documentation and instructions for classroom usage is available at https://www.thelanguagemagician.net/

  • Requires phone # of my school site to proceed

Looks great. I do not feel comfortable providing my school site’s phone number as a requirement for registration. That sounds like a potential way for my employer to be bothered by companies trying to sell programs/products to them, and even if not, I don’t want them being bothered with a phone call. That’s intrusive.
