Great app!

It has helped me a lot with keeping notes on my dogs progress and it’s all saved in one plane for quick reference.

Good but ...

I wish the notes that I leave in the journal on my iPad would sync with the app on my iPhone.

Simple but very informative

I have had the opportunity to train with several great trainers and their knowledge of training has been substantially valuable to my sessions. Having said that, this app helps when they aren’t around and I get in a jam on a way out or correction. The diagrams are excellent an help a lot when my wife and kids are helping throw marks or set up. I can show them just what I’m looking for. Great app. Would recommend to anyone training a retriever.

Needs Updating

The app worked great until I upgraded to IOS 13.4.1. I hope the developer investigates if that is why it stopped working.

The developer did investigate and quickly fixed the issue. This app is awesome.

Hi Grj5038. Thank You for your review. Can you be more specific re what is not working? My tests on IOS 13.4.1 show no problems. Please reply to csss@homein.ca. The sooner I know what the problem is, the sooner I can try to fix it.

Basic

I could log my pup’s training and hunting activity better with Word. Can’t even attach a photo. Should be a “free” app and definitely not worth the $$$.

Agree

I completely agree with first review. The app needs diagrams to help set up many of the drills. This app should be free until then. Please update the app so I don't feel like I wasted three dollars.

Hi nonicknamegiven, It took a couple of months, but each drill has had a diagram associated with it since Jan. 2017.

Diagrams

Nice collection of essential drills. The diagrams to illustrate the drills really help to to visualize the setups.
A helpful update would be a basics section. I can use the app to track progress easily with my transition and higher dogs, but not those in basics.

Hi Trieve1, After reading your review, I immediately added a diagram to every single drill. These diagrams have been available for a couple of years now. Have a look at the app now and let me know what you think!!

Excellent idea

Excellent idea. We all need a method of keeping track of our training in the field, not later when we get home. It would be nice to attach a photo. But other than that this fits my needs!

Great reference guide

Not sure if the other reviewer realizes it but this app DOES have diagrams. Very simple app to use with enough information to use as field guide and reference point for further study.

Pro review

This app doesn't describe in depth how to do any of the drills listed. It just briefly describes what they are & that is pretty brief. Diagrams would be helpful which this app does not have. You would be hard pressed to figure them out from this app. It does list books that have more in depth info but most of us don't own those books. Some are pretty old. The only useful feature seems to be a journal where you can journal several different dog's daily progress. It does have a glossary of retriever training jargon for those who haven't been around the sport & want to know what behaviors the various terms refer too. To the app producer: please add diagrams of the drills & enough info that people could actually try to do them. If you're looking for a notepad to chart your dog's progress this app could fill the bill.

Listen to lots of audio books

Hi "Listen ...." Thanks for taking the time to review the Retrievers App. For several reasons, it was never the intent of this app to include a detailed description of each Drill listed in the Drill Index. eg 1) some of the drills have been recently created (such as Influential Lining), and the only description I am aware of is from one book. I would have to plagiarize or seek permission from each of those authors 2) there are many flavours of some of the drills, and I could never capture them all. The description of the Drill Index includes "NOTE: This is an INDEX. The descriptions are brief summaries only. They do NOT include all of the information required to actually use the drills. There are many books and videos that can be referred to for more detailed information." Regarding tour request to add diagrams; each drill has had a diagram associated with it since Jan. 2017.
