Reviews of Oceanhorn 2

  • Concept

Alright this game is incredible! The details, the graphics, the animations, everything about this game is just chefs kiss! But I feel like the map should have some things that you can tap on to see what is where or the name of some locations. Having no way of knowing things cause most people do indeed skip the cutscenes, like me, for when we had to meet Master Mayfair in the tower, I never noticed the lever and was running around that area for days, I’m not exaggerating, days. I skipped the cutscene that showed the lever and was stuck for so long. The Bloodstones too, very hard to get to sometimes and they’re always in places where you would never expect them to be in. This game is overall amazing and the storyline is so creative and sometimes I’m stuck tryna find people to play Tarock with, such a cool card game! Overall, I would give a 4.5 star if I could do that. Great game!
  • Pretty good but story and characters really lacking.

Can anyone tell me a personality trait of Master Mayfair? What about the robot Gen? What about Trin? Are they funny? Cranky? Anxious? Quirky? Nope. All plain as white bread.

At least so far, I don’t know anything personable about any of them and so I don’t care about them.

And what is this story? Trin crashes her ship and these “bad guys” follow her. Who are they? What do they want? Now where are we going? Why? What’s there? Who is even the main antagonist? What does my character even want?

It’s important to establish right away what your characters want and what is standing in their way from getting it. Also your main character should do things that make plot happen. This story does the opposite - the plot happens TO the main character.

So, (at least so far in the game) I don’t care about any of the characters or what’s happening. I’m just playing to play it. Which is just ok I guess.

With all that said, the gameplay of Oceanhorn 2 does scratch that Zelda itch a lot more than I thought it would. The controls feel almost identical to how you control Link in 3D Zelda games. I’m not a huge fan of how you have to click a separate button before you can throw an object, besides that, the gameplay feels really solid.

Also, the graphics are beautiful. You can tell a lot of time and money went into creating this world and the environment.

I can’t give it 4 or 5 stars just yet, but there‘a a lot of potential here.
  • Decent, but some bugs

I wouldn’t call this a great game, but maybe good as a four star. But then there are weird bugs. SPOILERS:When visiting the inn in L’Istrait, I went to the guest rooms. Before talking to Irontalon, I checked out the door behind him first, and that caused the story to skip ahead and suddenly he was already abducted. That was a lame story skip. Another problem was visiting the Riskbourne Citadel with the Yellow Bird before the story advanced to the Riskbourne Citadel. Once I landed, I couldn’t leave. The Yellow Bird could not be accessed, and the only way out was by loading a backup save. Lame. Also kind of annoyed there were no special power shards that applied to both damage and might, to use for the sword. Anyway, those two bugs really should have been fixed a long time ago. Otherwise, the game was decent, especially for being an Apple Arcade game.
