Great ID photos, pls update with improvements

Addition of an interactive map showing species endemic to locations would be useful. Also some information on the white curl grubs would be good & is it possible to identify them at this stage?

Great app

Great app my little one loves catching and looking at all sorts mini beasts especially Xmas beetles can not wait till they start coming out a great update would be to be able to take a picture through the app with your gps on to record the location of the sighting this would help collect numbers and distribution of species

What a Xmas present

A great app! I just used it to ID the beetle in our trees. Great photos. The visual glossary is very helpful once I found it. Hope to see more ID apps of this quality in the future.

Response from developer

Thanks MeropsTS! The app has an interactive illustrated anatomical glossary available by tapping "MORE INFO" on the homescreen, and is hyperlinked to from anatomical terms in the species information.

Needs more beetles

No golden stag beetles, (Tasmanian Christmas beetles).

Response from developer

Thanks Rick. While golden stags do share their regional common name with Christmas beetles, they belong to the genus Lamprima which are taxonomically separate group to the true Chistmas beetles of the genus Anoplognathus and are not covered by the scope of this app. If you are looking for more information on golden stags, Australian Museum's head coleopterist (who lead this app) will be releasing a paper revising the genus of Lamprima in the coming weeks which will be available online through the journal Zootaxa.

Xmas beetle time

Love this app - can’t wait for the beetles to start arriving. Have been dive bombed in the past and love the description of them being clumsy flyers ... bit like brush turkeys!
Would it be possible to do a cicada one as well ?
On the Central Coast there are some areas where it is painful to sit outside some years but I have no idea who is making all the racket - is it black princes or greengrocers, etc?
Thanks again for this great app.

Superb images

This is a great app with high quality images and descriptions. Useful for adults and kids alike.

Great learning activity for kids

This app provides a great holiday activity for kids, where they can go searching for native beetles and learn how to identify what they find. You can "collect" beetles digitally by ticking them off a list for a challenge. Great for learning about scientific classification, and for getting kids outdoors and interested in nature!
