First of all, uTalk has three different typs of apps on offer. There's the 'classic' app, the main uTalk app, and uTalk Go ( or Go Talk as it appears in the app store).Their website only has information on the main uTalk app which makes it difficult to figure which one is best for you.
That being said, it’s basically a flash card review with memory games added in.
The classic app for Lao only has 9 topics and four games. I can't see any option to purchase more topics. After going through it, it seems like it's more for the casual learner who may just be traveling through Laos. As of this review the topics included are First words, food, colors, phrases, body, numbers, time, shopping and countries.
When you buy the app, there's a message that pops up urging you to try out their new app, which is the main uTalk app they feature on their website. If you do, they promise you 11 free topics since you bought the classic app. I did just that and never received the 11 free topics I was promised. I've tried contacting uTalk support through their website and have yet to receive an answer in regards to this issue. I fell like they should offer their 'classic' apps for a much lower price or for free if they're going to do this.
The main uTalk app houses all the different languages they offer. it even offers a subscription service that gives you access to all the content for all languages. The other option is to pay for coins which you can use to buy topics and continue playing to earn coins. As of the date of this review, there is about 60 topics which includes the alphabet.
The third app is uTalk Go. It's like the main uTalk app except it doesn't have as many topics to study. Topics are grouped into two price points Essentials and Premium. The premium bundle includes the topics offered in the Essentials bundle ,as of the date of this review, so watch out for that if using that app.
For me, buying this app was a mistake. I wish uTalk had more information on their website on the different features their different apps offer so that all of us can make a more informed choice as to which app to use.
